Catch Up On Your Favourite Blogs in One Place
| by Paula Brett |I got to the stage, a little while ago, where there were so many great blogs that I like to read that I couldn’t keep up with them all. It was taking up too much time, going through all my bookmarks and clicking on each individual site.
Sometimes I got so busy that I would forget to check my favourite blogs out and, annoyingly, missed out on getting some great breaking news `as it happens’ – a few days later isn’t always good enough in internet marketing!
Now, I’m happy to say, I no longer have those problems as I use a really cool Google product called Google Reader. Many of you may already be using this or perhaps you might have heard about it but not got round to signing up? If you’re not using it, I would strongly recommend it.
Google Reader allows you to simply login and read all your favourite blogs in one place, at one time.
I’ve done a mini-tutorial below to show you how easy it is to set up:-
1. Go to the GR home page here
If you already have any kind of Google account such as Gmail or AdSense then you can use your login details to sign in – otherwise, simply sign up for an account.
2. Once you’ve signed in or signed up you’ll see this page
3. Click on the Add Subscription button and add the url of your favourite blog and click Add
4. Just go on adding the urls of the blogs you like to read using the Add Subscription button and you’ll see them appear down the left-hand side
6. Just click on the feed on the left-hand side that you want to read and all the posts will appear in the large window to the right.
7. When new posts appear you will see the number of posts you have not read yet in brackets next to the name of the blog e.g. PlanetSMS Blog (2) You can mark each post as read when you’re done.
There are loads of other features you can get into by having a good old rummage around, simply click on the Manage Subscriptions link
One nice one that I’ll tell you about is the subscribe button to add to your browser. Click on the Goodies link and scroll down to the bottom of the page
So there you have it, all your favourite blog posts in one place – you can whizz through them all in one go and save yourself a bit of time.
Best wishes
Paula

Hi Paula,
I’m finally getting around to finding out more about RSS feeds. I’m writing a bit about it for my blog. Your article is one of the best and easiest to understand that I have seen, so I’d like to put in a link to it for my readers. Is that ok with you? Blogging etiquette I’m not sure about – do I need to ask you?
Cheers

Hi Sue
Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say so. I’m glad that you found it easy to understand and helpful.
Yes, by all means, link away. It will come in to me as a trackback, which I will approve and publish and a link to your post on your blog will appear under this post. Mutually beneficial
Take care, Sue
