What is “Open Source”?

It could be a computer program, operating system or even a piece of software that is publically available for anyone to use and it’s free.
Open Source items in general can be freely modified and developed and redistributed.

Although I’m quite willing to pay for good software I know that there is a lot of great free and esspecially good open sources projects on the Internet that will do the job just as well.
I recently came accross the site freeapps.co.uk with many applications I’d not come accross before. sourceforge.net is great source of open source software projects.
